About Us

Welcome to Democratic Action

INITIATION:

A small noble initiative of supplementary nutrition in village Ponduguda under Kosagumuda block of Nabarangpur district, with the tribal Children in 1999 is the foundation for Democratic Action. The work gradually expands across nearby villages with Non-formal Education Centers, Vocational skill development, Women’s Empowerment, Environment protection, sustainable livelihoods and &reproductive health, now spread over 200 villages in five development blocks of Nabarangpur district  addressing  the e social and economic issues - addiction, child marriage, girls’ education. In order to keep them together we started saving and credit activities for women and this group was named mahila sanghas and Yuvak Sanghas (very similarly to involve the youth into developmental activities such as literacy, sports and traditional cultural events as well as social issues of concerns and maintain harmony in the village and this group was named Yuvak Sangha means - youth club) &alternate livelihood initiatives for marginal and un-privileged households.  With the basic philosophy of “Serving Fellow being is Worshiping God with vision of creating awareness and progress to make the people masters of their own destiny by working together and achieving it with his fellow beings”, has been adding many layers ever-since and to its work spread to many villages of the district. The work among the Schedule tribes and Dalits - facing socio-political and economic challenges due to recurrent drought and industrialization over their traditional nature-based livelihoods, Democratic Actionrevisited its mission & vision. The organization started its work with door-to-door meeting with people of Gram Panchayat, Educational Institutions, Block Officials, CHC & ICDS and assessed problem existing among the Tribals and Dalit people of the area. Since the beginning Democratic action had intervened to address the socio-cultural, economic issue of the people.
